Do I need to report Roth IRA contributions in my tax return?

by Jacob
(Portland, OR)

I already filed my 2009 tax return using free online filing service. However, I didn't put any information about Roth IRA contributions in tax return because I thought Roth IRA was nothing to do with a tax filing. Did I need to report Roth contributions? If I was wrong, how can I fix it? If I don't report my Roth account, how the IRS would know if I contribute more than the Roth IRA contribution limit?

don't worry...

In short, you don't have to worry about tax filing with your Roth IRA. Your investment companies will handle that issue with the IRS. They will file Form 5498 with the IRS to report the amounts contributed by you.
